MTB Hopper Portable Bike Ramp Review

MTB Hopper makes portable, foldable mountain bike ramps, priced from about $90 for the smallest up to just under $1,000 for the full setups.

The problem it solves is real for anyone who rides. Building a jump takes a session's worth of digging, it needs land you are allowed to dig on, and rain undoes it. A ramp that folds into a car boot means you can practise on flat ground, at a car park, on a Tuesday evening — which is when skill actually gets built.

That convenience is the whole product and it justifies a price that looks high against a plywood kicker. Plywood does not fold, weighs more, delaminates in wet weather, and cannot be adjusted.

The caution is straightforward: a ramp does not make anybody a better rider by itself, and the failure mode is a broken collarbone rather than a wasted purchase. Progression on jumps depends on approach speed and body position, and buying a big ramp before you can consistently manual and pump is a poor sequence. Start with the smallest in the range, not the one in the video.

Build quality and hinge design matter more than the surface — folding structures fail at the joints, and the hinges are what you are paying for.

Strong buy if you already ride regularly and have nowhere legal to build. Do not start here if you are new to the sport; the money is better spent on skills coaching first.
