Xtan Sunless Buying Guide 2026: Which Spray Tan Machine Fits Your Tan Count?

Saturday, 7:15 a.m., and the bridal party has booked seven back-to-back spray tans in a hotel suite. You're hauling the machine up the service elevator, the hose is coiled over your shoulder, and somewhere around tan number five you're going to find out whether you bought the right equipment. Choosing a spray tan machine is less about specs on a page and more about how many bodies you spray a day, and where.

Xtan Sunless, the Temecula, California brand known for its Obsidian and Bronzite solutions, sells three families of HVLP systems, a cordless contour airbrush and machine-plus-solution starter packages. Olivia Reviews compared every system listed in October 2026, using the brand's own capacity ratings, weights and warranty terms, to answer one question: which Xtan machine should you buy?

Quick take: Spraying fewer than ten clients a day, often on the move? The $479.99 soloTAN is the lightest option. Mobile artists doing 25 or more a day should look at the $449 Mini-Mist T-6000 or the $659 T-5020. Studios at 25 to 40 tans a day fit the $639.99 studioTAN, and busy salons belong in the salonTAN or Mighty-Mist range. Before you commit, see today's Xtan Sunless deals.

Start with your daily tan count

Every Xtan machine listing gives a recommended daily capacity, and it's the most useful number on the page:

  • 5 to 10 tans a day: soloTAN
  • 25 or more a day, mobile: Mini-Mist T-6000 or T-5020
  • 25 to 40 a day, studio: studioTAN
  • 40 or more a day: salonTAN
  • 50 or more a day: Mighty-Mist T-6000 or T-5020

Buy for the busiest day you expect in the next year, not your average Tuesday. Then narrow it down by weight, noise and warranty.

The TAN7350 family: soloTAN, studioTAN and salonTAN

All three share the TAN7350 applicator with a 250cc bottom-feed cup, stainless steel fluid passages with a 0.8 mm air cap set, a rear-mounted fan pattern control and a 10-foot Hi-Flex hose. What changes is the turbine.

soloTAN, $479.99 (was $599)

The soloTAN turbine weighs 4.51 lbs, per the listing. Image: Xtan Sunless.

Built for solo and mobile artists, the soloTAN is the brand's redesigned take on the classic hvlpTAN GLO. The listing gives a weight of 4.51 lbs (2.05 kg), dimensions of 30 x 17 x 20 cm, a padded handle and shoulder strap, and built-in applicator and power cord storage. It runs on 120V for North American use. The trade-off is warranty: 12 months on the system, parts and labour, plus 2 years on the applicator.

studioTAN, $639.99 (was $789)

The studioTAN pairs a 2-stage bypass motor with the TAN7350 applicator. Image: Xtan Sunless.

A step up for studio artists spraying 25 to 40 tans a day. The studioTAN uses a 2-stage bypass motor, available in 110V and 220V, and weighs 12.23 lbs (5.55 kg). The listing highlights Noise Reduction Covers, Fuji Spray's Heat Dissipation Box, a turbine-mounted applicator holder, washable quick-change friction-fit filters and UL/CSA approval for cosmetic use. The system warranty doubles to 2 years.

salonTAN, $989.99 (was $1,219)

The salonTAN lists an operating sound level of 56 dBA. Image: Xtan Sunless.

The top of the TAN7350 series, aimed at high-volume salons and multi-technician teams spraying 40 or more tans a day. It's the heaviest at 19.73 lbs (8.95 kg), and the listing gives an operating sound level of 56 dBA, describing it as quieter than an average conversation. Like the studioTAN, it has a 2-stage bypass motor, a turbine-mounted holder, a washable filter and a 2-year system warranty. One note: a second line on the same listing gives 25 to 40 tans per day, so confirm capacity with the brand if it's critical.

The Mini-Mist pair: built for mobile artists

The Mini-Mist T-5020 includes a distance guide for new technicians. Image: Xtan Sunless.

Both Mini-Mist systems are rated for 25 or more tans a day and share a lightweight plastic body, a 10-foot Air-Flex hose with a Super-Flex whip hose and lightweight alloy couplers. Their applicators are designed without O-rings, which the brand says makes them simple to take apart and clean after each session. The listing names mobile appointments, tanning parties, pageants and bodybuilding competitions as typical uses.

  • Mini-Mist T-6000, $449: the T-6000 Professional Mist Applicator, and the lowest-priced HVLP system in the lineup.
  • Mini-Mist T-5020, $659: the T-5020 applicator, which Xtan bills as its premium mobile option, plus a distance guide to help new technicians find the right spraying distance. A combined Mini-Mist listing showed the T-5020 version at $596, so compare both pages before you buy.

The warranty is the Mini-Mist's quiet advantage: 2 years standard, extended to 4 years if you register within 30 days of purchase at hvlpsunless.com/warranty-registration. Unregistered machines default to 2 years.

Mighty-Mist: the high-volume option

The Mighty-Mist has a matte black case and a built-in docking station. Image: Xtan Sunless.

For busy salons and high-volume mobile businesses, the Mighty-Mist is rated for 50 or more tans a day, and the listing says the T-5020 Deluxe applicator is rated for 60 or more. Its Quiet Technology is listed at 76 decibels. The T-5020 version's details include a 14-foot Ultra-Flex hose with quick-connect alloy ends, three fan patterns (spot contouring, vertical and horizontal), variable speed control, stainless steel fluid parts with no O-rings, an 8 oz (250cc) bottom-fed composite cup and a built-in docking station for the applicator. The case is matte black with micro-foam filters to absorb sound.

  • Mighty-Mist T-6000, $1,079: paired with the lighter T-6000 applicator, which the brand says reduces operator fatigue on long days.
  • Mighty-Mist T-5020, $1,359: paired with the T-5020 Deluxe applicator.

Both carry the same 2-year standard and 4-year registered warranty as the Mini-Mist.

The add-on: Cordless Airbrush Gun, $122

X-Tan Sunless cordless airbrush gun for contour spray tans
The cordless airbrush is designed for contouring, not full-body coverage. Image: Xtan Sunless.

This isn't a replacement for an HVLP system; it's a contouring tool. The listing describes a gravity-feed gun (model BDA67014) with a 0.4 mm nozzle, 35 PSI, 6 to 8 liters of airflow and a trigger with auto start/stop. Its 7.4V, 800 mAh lithium battery charges in about 2 hours and runs about 25 to 40 minutes per charge. Xtan says it works with any water-based or aloe-based spray tan solution, and warns that the airbrush is delicate: run gun cleaner through it after each use instead of taking it apart, and note that incorrect use voids the warranty.

Before you order equipment

  • Shipping: Xtan ships to the US, APO/FPO addresses and Canada. Spray tan systems may be drop-shipped from the manufacturer, and rates are based on weight, rounded up to the next full pound.
  • The free-shipping code doesn't cover machines: SHIPFREE gives free US ground shipping on $300+ orders but excludes equipment and bundled packages.
  • Returns are tight: unused, unopened items can be returned within 7 days of delivery, minus a 20% restocking fee and shipping. The policy also says only regular-priced goods can be refunded, which matters because several machines were marked down.
  • Tents are final sale: including the XL pop-up tent in the packages.

What we like and what to watch

What we like

  • Clear daily-capacity ratings on every machine.
  • Four-year warranty option on Mini-Mist and Mighty-Mist systems.
  • Weights and dimensions listed for the TAN7350 machines.

What to watch

  • The soloTAN's system warranty is 12 months.
  • Sale-priced equipment may not be refundable under the policy.
  • Small inconsistencies between listings, such as the two T-5020 prices.

Who should buy which

New artists who want everything in one box should start with a Mini-Mist package. Mobile pros already stocked with solution can buy the Mini-Mist on its own. Studio owners should weigh the studioTAN's filters and holder against the salonTAN's lower noise. Skip the Mighty-Mist unless your calendar truly runs past 50 tans on peak days.

How to save

  1. Compare the sale prices on the TAN7350 machines with the Mini-Mist range before you decide.
  2. Use a package if you need solution, a tent and accessories anyway.
  3. Register the warranty within 30 days so a Mini-Mist or Mighty-Mist gets 4 years instead of 2.
  4. Check our Xtan Sunless coupon page for any current equipment offers.

The soloTAN, at 4.51 lbs per its listing.

Which is quietest?

The salonTAN lists 56 dBA; the Mighty-Mist lists 76 decibels.

No. The brand says the T-6000 and T-5020 are designed without O-rings for easier cleaning.
