About EmilyReview

Last updated: August 2026

EmilyReview is an independent, reader-funded publication covering consumer products for shoppers in the United States. We research what things cost, what they actually do, and when they are not worth buying.

What we publish

Two kinds of article. Buying guides, which compare the options in a category against the specifications their makers publish. And single-product reviews, which take one item and ask whether the price is justified by what it does.

Both are written to be useful to somebody about to spend money, which means they contain the awkward parts: the assembly, the return window, the component the seller declined to name. A guide that only lists the good points is an advertisement with a byline.

How we work

We are a research desk, not a testing lab, and we do not pretend otherwise. Our conclusions come from published specifications, first-party documentation and stated retailer policies — and where a judgement would need physical use we have not had, we say so in the article instead of guessing. The full method is on our How We Research page.

How we make money

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy after following one, the retailer may pay us a commission — at no additional cost to you. That is what funds the site.

It is also the obvious conflict of interest, so here is our answer to it: no brand pays for coverage, for a score, or for a place in a ranking, and no brand reads an article before publication. Several of our guides recommend against buying the product they cover, including products we could earn a commission on. Details in the affiliate disclosure.

Who writes it

Articles are researched and written by the EmilyReview editorial team and published under the team byline rather than under invented author profiles. Our standards for sourcing, corrections and independence are set out in the editorial guidelines.

Talk to us

Corrections, questions and complaints are all welcome through the contact page. If we published something wrong, we would rather hear it from a reader than leave it standing.
