What to check when buying eyewear online

• Your frame measurements, printed on the inside arm of a pair you already wear: lens width, bridge width and arm length, usually as three numbers. These matter far more than the style name.

• Frame material. Acetate is adjustable by heat and repairable; metal frames can be tweaked; some plastics cannot be adjusted at all.
• Return terms on prescription lenses, which are made to order and frequently non-returnable.
