Protech Allergies Care Guide 2026: Filters, Steam Mops and Bedding, Done Right

Protech Allergies Care Guide 2026: Filters, Steam Mops and Bedding, Done Right

Somewhere around the 2,000th hour, a small light on a Protech purifier starts to blink. It's easy to ignore: the fan still hums, the room still looks the same. Down the hall, a steam mop's microfiber pad has gone grey at the edges, the vacuum's filter hasn't been rinsed since spring, and the mattress cover was last washed when the sheets were new.

Protech Allergies, the Quebec store best known for its purifiers, encasements and bamboo sheets, publishes a surprising amount of maintenance advice, but it's scattered across French-language product pages and accessory listings. Olivia Reviews collected it in October 2026 and organized it by appliance and by fabric, so the blinking light comes with a plan.

Quick take: most Protech maintenance is simple and well documented: change purifier filters once or twice a year, rinse washable filters and let them dry fully, wash pads and bedding on a schedule, and keep spare parts on hand. Replacement filters, lamps, pads, batteries and chargers are all sold on the site. See today's Protech Allergies deals before you restock.

A note on scope: this guide covers cleaning and upkeep only. Olivia Reviews doesn't make claims about allergy symptoms; if you have allergies, asthma or breathing concerns, ask a doctor or allergist what will actually help.

Air purifiers: filters, lamps and the 2,000-hour light

Every Protech purifier follows the same rhythm. A light comes on after 2,000 hours of use, and you reset it by holding the "filters" button for eight seconds (the FELAIR listing also mentions a "reset" button). The brand recommends replacing filters once or twice a year, or two to six times a year in a smoking household. What changes between models is what's inside the replacement pack:

  • P1211: one integrated cartridge that includes the pre-filter, the carbon filter and the HEPA filter, so a single swap renews everything.
  • P3001: the pack contains the carbon and HEPA filters only. You keep the washable pre-filter and the photocatalytic filter. A replacement photocatalytic filter is sold too, but only together with the P3001 filter pack. The UV lamps come as a pair, rated for 32,000 hours.
  • P6006: the pack contains the HEPA filter and a carbon filter attached to the photocatalytic filter. You keep the pre-filter and clean it every two months. Its UV lamp is also rated for 32,000 hours.
  • FELAIR: the replacement includes the washable electrostatic cotton filter, the H13 HEPA filter and the carbon filter, and the purifier has a built-in filter-change reminder.

Write the install date on the filter frame with a marker and the 2,000-hour light stops being a mystery.

ASPRA cordless vacuum: battery and washable HEPA filter

The ASPRA's HEPA filter can be washed, and the brand's one firm rule is that it must be completely dry before it goes back into the vacuum. Protech's own suggestion is to buy a second filter, so one is in use while the other dries. The vacuum charges on its wall mount, and a full charge takes three to four hours. On the battery, the brand's advice is to replace it only when it's actually due, and to always use the UL-certified charger supplied by the company, never another charger, which it stresses applies to any lithium battery. Spare floor heads, a charger and a battery are all listed as accessories. For carpets, the brand recommends using high power.

NET steam mop and PURE handheld steamer

The NET steam mop ships with 12 accessories, including two washable pads, brushes and a window tool. Image: Protech Allergies.

Protech's instructions start before the steam: vacuum first, then mop. The NET's 370 ml tank sits at the top, runs for up to about 20 minutes and heats in under 20 seconds, so refills are quick. Its 1.5 bar pressure is what the brand cites for using it on hardwood, floating floors, laminate, ceramic and vinyl. Among its 12 accessories are a nylon brush that the brand calls safe for grout and a brass brush for tougher jobs, with a clear caution: scrub too hard with the brass brush and it can wear down grout joints.

The smaller PURE handheld has a 300 ml tank, heats in 15 seconds, runs about 15 minutes and uses 3 bar of pressure through a 1.2 m hose. It comes with a steam lance, a window tool, a brass brush and a rectangular tool for fabrics such as sofas, mattresses and curtains, plus a pressure safety cap.

Looking after the pads

The NET ships with two washable blue microfiber pads. Protech sells replacement pairs for when they wear out after many washes or go missing, and lists extra nozzles too. Microfiber cloths for the PURE are also sold, though they were out of stock when we checked.

Bedding: what to wash, and how often

Protech organic bamboo sheet fabric close-up
Protech's bamboo sheets are listed for a weekly hot wash. Image: Protech Allergies.

The brand's bedding advice is built around a three-layer setup, and each layer has its own schedule:

  1. Zippered encasement: wash once in hot water before installing, then as needed. Since it stays on the mattress, it's the least-washed layer.
  2. Cooling waterproof cover: hot water once a month or as needed, according to the encasement listing; the cover's own page says once every two months. Either way, the elastic edge makes it the easiest layer to strip.
  3. Bamboo sheets: once a week in hot water.

Protech adds that you can wash in cold water instead if you use its laundry products, which it says helps preserve fabrics over time. For pillows, note the distinction on the listing: the memory foam pillow's breathable cover is machine washable, but the pillow itself is not. A zippered pillow encasement adds a washable layer around it.

Laundry helpers: capsules, DeMite and the spray

Protech's laundry capsules come in a tub of small blue pods. Image: Protech Allergies.
  • Protech detergent capsules: mini blue capsules you drop into the washer with the laundry, one per load of about eight to 12 garments. The brand lists essential oils and citric acid as the active ingredients and says the formula is designed to work in cold water.
  • DeMite laundry additive: added to your usual detergent in cold, warm or hot water. The listing names benzyl benzoate as its key ingredient, and it comes in 8 oz and 1 litre sizes. Protech suggests combining it with the capsules.
  • Anti-allergen spray: for fabrics that don't go in the washer, such as curtains, sofas, rugs and soft toys. The instructions are to spray, let it dry for about an hour and then vacuum the treated surface. The brand lists eucalyptus leaf, lemon leaf and citronella extracts.

Replacement parts worth keeping on hand

  • One spare filter pack for each purifier you run.
  • A second ASPRA HEPA filter, so one can dry.
  • A spare pair of NET microfiber pads.
  • UV lamps for the P3001 or P6006, if you use that function.
  • Extra P8000 humidifier HEPA filters, sold in packs of two or four.

Care and the 30-day return window

Protech offers a 30-day satisfaction policy on everything except the made-to-measure duvet cover: email the store within 30 days, and it sends a prepaid Canada Post label and refunds you in full once the product arrives back, provided it's in its original packaging and hasn't been damaged or altered. Pillows are final sale for hygiene reasons. The practical tip is simple: keep the boxes for the first month, before you start washing and trimming your routine into place. Shipping is free over a small minimum order, and delivery to the rest of Canada and the US takes two to six business days.

FAQ

How do I reset the filter light on a Protech purifier?

Hold the "filters" button for eight seconds after installing the new filter, according to the filter listings.

Can I wash the ASPRA's HEPA filter?

Yes, it's washable. Make sure it's completely dry before putting it back, which is why the brand suggests owning a spare.

Can I machine-wash the memory foam pillow?

No. Only its cover is machine washable, per the listing.

Do I have to wash bedding in hot water?

The schedules above call for hot water, but Protech says you can use cold water with its detergent and DeMite additive.

Final verdict

Protech Allergies backs its appliances and bedding with straightforward upkeep: a 2,000-hour filter light, washable filters and pads, layered bedding with clear wash schedules, and a full shelf of replacement parts. Put the calendar on the fridge, buy the spare filter before you need it, and look for a current Protech Allergies offer when restocking.
