Step 1: Choose the Right Way In
NextUp shows are sold on three separate platforms, and NextUp says they're "totally separate" because of technical limitations. It matters for setup, because only one of them gives you NextUp's own website, apps and livestreams.

The Prime Video channel is a paid add-on inside Prime Video, using your Amazon login, and it doesn't give you NextUp's apps, website or livestreams. It's also different from NextUp's Fire TV app. If you subscribed through Prime Video and want the full service, NextUp says its support team can help you transfer if you email them.
Step 2: Set Up Your Account and Payment
- Currency: NextUp charges in British pounds. Outside the UK you can choose PayPal, which offers currency conversion at checkout, but NextUp notes that paying in GBP on your debit or credit card may be cheaper, depending on your bank.
- Discount codes: enter a code in the "discount code" box while you're typing your card details, then click "apply." It's worth checking current NextUp Comedy offers before this step.
- Passwords: 6 to 128 characters, case sensitive, with no limits on special characters or spaces.
- "Email has already been taken": NextUp says this usually means you started a checkout before or once signed up for free content. Use "Forgot Password?" on the sign-in page to reset it and log in.
- Password resets happen on the website only. You can't reset a password inside the apps; change it on the website and the apps will use the new one.
Step 3: Get the Apps
NextUp lists current apps for iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets, Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV, and its app page also mentions Roku. You can watch in a web browser on a phone, tablet or computer, too. If an app misbehaves, NextUp's first fix is simple: update it to the latest version.
One thing that trips up smart-TV owners: NextUp's LG and Samsung TV apps were withdrawn in March 2023, when it revamped its app range. It offers two workarounds. Cast or mirror from a browser or phone app to a compatible TV, or plug in a streaming device that runs NextUp's app, such as Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast or Fire TV.
Step 4: Cast to Your TV
With AirPlay (Apple devices)
- Connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to the same Wi-Fi network as your AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV or Apple TV.
- Find the video you want to watch.
- Tap the AirPlay icon.
- Choose your smart TV or Apple TV.
With Chromecast
- Connect a Chromecast device to your TV.
- Put your laptop, phone or tablet on the same Wi-Fi network as the TV.
- Start the video and click the Chromecast icon at the bottom right of the player.
- Pick your TV in the pop-up and cast.
NextUp's casting fine print is worth knowing before you get frustrated. Chromecast works from the Google Chrome browser and from NextUp's iPhone and Android apps. It does not work from Safari or Chrome on an iPhone or iPad, because of Apple's limits, so use AirPlay there. You can cast only to Chromecast devices or Android boxes, and NextUp says casting from other browsers may work but isn't supported.

NextUp recommends the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari. It doesn't support Internet Explorer, smart-TV browsers or games-console browsers, which is why it points TV viewers to AirPlay and Chromecast instead.
A blank or black screen after logging in is, according to NextUp, a browser-version problem. Update the browser to its latest version, then clear the cache and cookies. The help center walks through this for Chrome on desktop and iOS, Safari on Mac and iPhone, and the newer Chromium-based Edge.

Step 6: Time UK Livestreams From the US
NextUp's schedule lists start times in UK time, and most shows begin in the UK evening. Two things help:
- Read the time zone label. October listings switched from BST to GMT on the schedule. The UK moves its clocks back on Sunday, October 25, 2026, while the US doesn't change until Sunday, November 1. For that one week, the gap to Eastern Time shrinks from five hours to four.
- Do the math once. The Glee Club Birmingham show listed for 7:45 p.m. GMT on October 30, a Friday, starts at 3:45 p.m. in New York and 12:45 p.m. in Los Angeles.
NextUp usually streams one new show a week, and in January, February and August it streams from the Access, Leicester and Edinburgh festivals, with 20 to 60 livestreams in a month. Those are the months to plan around.
Step 7: Use Catch-Up and the Community
Missed the start? NextUp's homepage says most livestreams are available on catch-up for 7 days, dropping to around 60% during the Edinburgh Fringe. Its help center adds that catch-up varies show by show at the performers' discretion, and that NextUp usually announces it on Twitter first. If a show matters to you, watch it live or soon after.
During a livestream, the chat runs alongside the video. Between shows, Access All Areas members can post on the message boards to swap recommendations. NextUp says new on-demand batches of about 30 hours arrive four times a year, so the boards are a good place to hear what's worth watching next.
Step 8: Manage Billing and Cancellation
- When you're charged: on the day of purchase, then automatically every 12 months until you cancel. Members on an older monthly plan are still billed monthly.
- Renewal reminder: the checkout page says NextUp emails you 30 days before renewal.
- How to cancel: Dashboard → Purchases → Manage → End membership. Your account stays active until the next billing day.
- Refunds: NextUp doesn't refund partially unused membership periods.
