Biosota Review 2026: What You Pay for at Each Manuka Honey Grade

Biosota Review 2026: What You Pay for at Each Manuka Honey Grade

Two jars of Manuka honey sit side by side in your online cart. They look nearly identical, golden and thick, yet one costs A$47 and the other costs more than A$1,000. The only obvious difference is a number printed on the label: MGO 260+ on one, MGO 2200+ on the other.

That gap is the whole puzzle of shopping at Biosota, an Australian Manuka honey producer on the Gold Coast. Olivia Reviews looked at the brand's official store, product listings and published policies in October 2026 to work out what you're paying for at each level, and which jars make sense for which kind of shopper.

Quick take: Biosota is a family-owned Queensland honey producer that labels every jar with MGO and NPA figures and sells a very wide range, from A$39 flavored blends to a limited A$1,150 jar. Prices are in Australian dollars, change-of-mind returns aren't accepted, and several regions can't receive orders, so read the shipping map before you shop. See today's Biosota deals.

Who Is Behind Biosota?

Biosota describes itself as a third-generation family business. Its About page traces the family's beekeeping back to 1950s Europe, a move to Australia in 1996 and the founding of the company in 1999. Andrey and Oxana Zubko are named as the owners, and the business lists its base at Varsity Lakes, Queensland, where customers can also collect orders for free on weekdays.

According to the brand, the word "Biosota" translates to "natural hexagon," a reference to the six-sided cells bees build. The company says its honey is extracted at a temperature similar to the inside of the hive and is not heat-treated, pasteurised or sterilised.

Reading a Biosota Label in Ten Seconds

Before looking at specific jars, it helps to know the three things printed on almost every Biosota product:

  • MGO (methylglyoxal): the brand defines the figure as milligrams per kilogram, so MGO 880+ means at least 880 mg/kg.
  • NPA (non-peroxide activity): a second rating Biosota prints next to MGO, for example NPA 20+ alongside MGO 880+.
  • Jar type: Pharmapac is a recyclable PET plastic jar the brand says is made without BPA or PFAS; Violetglass is a dark Miron glass jar used on selected grades.

Biosota says its grades are checked by independent accredited laboratories. Higher numbers are rarer and priced higher, and that's the main reason the price ladder climbs so steeply.

Five Biosota Products Worth a Closer Look

Pick 1: Pharmapac Jar MGO 260+ (NPA 10+)

The MGO 260+ jar comes in 250g, 500g and 1kg sizes. Image: Biosota

This is the everyday jar of the range: A$47 for 250g, A$79 for 500g and A$99 for a 1kg jar. The brand lists it as pure raw Australian Manuka honey in a recyclable, food-safe PET jar. If you simply want to see whether you like the taste of Manuka on toast or in tea, this is the low-commitment way in.

Pick 2: Manuka Honey + Turmeric and Cinnamon (MGO 30+)

Biosota's Superfoods jars mix low-grade Manuka honey with other ingredients. On this one, the label lists Manuka honey at 96% and turmeric at 3%, with cinnamon added. The brand suggests it on toast, in tea or in a golden latte. Siblings in the same 350g format include Ginger and Lemon, and a newer Manuka Hot Honey with chilli and cayenne pepper. Each is A$39.

Pick 3: Certified Organic Honey Sticks MGO 880+ Gift Box

Honey sticks solve the sticky-spoon problem. This A$88 box holds 12 sticks of certified organic Manuka honey graded MGO 880+. The range also includes stick tubes at MGO 150+, 300+, 550+ and 1200+, starting at A$38, so you can pick a grade and still get the grab-and-go format.

Pick 4: Violetglass MGO 1717+ (NPA 31+)

Here the range becomes a premium purchase. In Violetglass the MGO 1717+ costs A$96 for 70g, A$179 for 140g, A$298 for 250g and A$512 for 500g. The brand says the same harvest is also sold in Pharmapac jars (A$281 for 250g), so the glass is a packaging choice rather than a different honey. The 70g trial size is the sensible first step here.

Pick 5: MGO 2200+ Limited Edition

Biosota's top grade is listed as MGO 2200+ with NPA 36+, and the product page says only 500 jars were ever produced. Prices run from A$168 for 70g up to A$1,150 for 500g, and there's a boxed gift version too. This is a collector's or special-occasion purchase, not a pantry staple.

All figures are the store's Australian-dollar list prices in October 2026. The site may convert prices to your local currency, and US shoppers are pointed to a separate US store, biosota.us, for dollar pricing.

Before You Click Buy: Shipping and Returns

Shipping. Orders are processed in 1–2 business days. Standard shipping is free from A$75 within Australia, from A$115 to the USA, from A$350 to the UK and Canada, and from A$500 to most other countries. Orders leave Australia with DHL; US orders ship with USPS or UPS. International delivery is estimated at 5–21 business days, and duties are paid by the recipient.

Where it can't go. Because of customs and quarantine rules, the brand can't ship to Western Australia, New Zealand, South America, Mexico, island regions, Africa, China, Thailand, Greece, Portugal or Spain.

Returns. Biosota accepts returns within 30 days of purchase but doesn't refund change-of-mind orders. If an order arrives damaged or faulty, the brand says it may offer a refund, replacement or store credit. The customer covers return shipping.

Storage. The brand recommends keeping jars at about 20Β°C away from sunlight, not in the fridge. Raw honey can crystallise; Biosota suggests a warm (not boiling) water bath to loosen it.

Our Take: Strengths and Drawbacks

What we like

  • Every jar shows MGO and NPA figures, so comparing grades is easy.
  • Trial 70g jars on the Violetglass grades lower the cost of trying a high grade.
  • A genuinely varied range: sticks, drops, flavored blends, koala bears and gift boxes.
  • Family ownership and a long history, with the company founded in 1999.
  • A points program that rewards accounts, reviews and birthdays, not just spending.

What to watch

  • The top grades are expensive, and the price climbs fast above MGO 1000+.
  • No refunds for change of mind.
  • A long list of places the brand can't ship to, including New Zealand and Spain.
  • International shoppers pay customs duties on arrival.
  • Prices are set in Australian dollars, which adds a conversion step for most readers.

Is Biosota Right for You?

A good match if you: want to compare Manuka grades by the numbers, enjoy food gifts with an Australian twist, or plan to reorder often enough to use the bulk packs and points.

Maybe skip it if you: live in a region on the no-ship list, want the option to return an unopened jar you've changed your mind about, or just want a cheap everyday honey for baking.

Biosota sells food products. Olivia Reviews doesn't make any claims about what Manuka honey does for the body. If you have dietary questions, talk to your doctor, and note that the brand's own FAQ says honey should not be given to babies under 12 months.

Ways to Spend Less at Biosota

  • Buy 5 Get 1 Free packs: six 250g MGO 260+ jars were A$235 against a listed A$282, and the same deal runs on MGO 550+, 880+, 1200+ and 1717+.
  • Free gift over A$100: the site lists a bag of honey lozenges as the gift, limit one per order.
  • Manuka Squad points: 200 points for joining, 5 points per A$1 spent, 150 for a review and 100 on your birthday. Points last 12 months.
  • Referrals: a friend gets A$25 off, and you get A$25 off after their first purchase.
  • Newsletter: the FAQ mentions a monthly offer for subscribers.

Biosota Questions, Answered

Isn't Manuka honey only from New Zealand?

Biosota's FAQ says the Leptospermum plants behind Manuka honey are native to parts of Australia as well as New Zealand. Biosota's honey is Australian.

What's the difference between Pharmapac and Violetglass jars?

The brand says both hold the same harvest for a given grade. Pharmapac is the more economical PET plastic jar; Violetglass is a patented Miron glass jar the brand describes as its eco-friendly option.

Can I collect my order instead of paying for shipping?

Yes. Free local pickup is offered at Varsity Lakes, Queensland, from 9am to 3pm AEST, Monday to Friday.

How do I use my Manuka Squad points?

Log in, open the Rewards pop-up and choose Ways to redeem. The brand says your points turn into a unique discount code that applies at checkout, calculated in Australian dollars.

Final Verdict

Biosota makes the confusing world of Manuka grading easier to read: every jar carries its numbers, and the range spans casual A$39 blends to a limited-edition top grade. For most shoppers the sweet spot is the MGO 260+ jar, a flavored blend or a 70g trial jar of a higher grade, ideally bought as a value pack or past the A$100 free-gift line.
