Biosota First-Order Guide 2026: Choosing Your First Manuka Jar in Six Steps

The first time you open Biosota's shop, the numbers come at you fast. MGO 260+. NPA 15+. MGO 1717+. A 70 g jar for $69 sitting a few rows away from a full kilo for $71. It's easy to close the tab and buy whatever's on the supermarket shelf instead.

Don't. A first order from this Australian Manuka producer is simpler than it looks once you take it in the right order. Olivia Reviews walked through the store in October 2026 as a new US customer would, and turned it into six plain steps, from choosing a grade to what happens when the parcel lands.

Quick take: For a first jar, start in the "Everyday Strength" range (MGO 260+ to 880+) in a 250 g or 500 g Pharmapac jar, or try the rare MGO 1717+ in its 70 g trial size. Create a free account before checkout for 200 rewards points, aim for A$100 for the free gift and A$115 for free US shipping, and remember there are no change-of-mind returns. Before you start, see today's Biosota deals.

Step 1: Decide what the jar is for

Every Biosota label leads with an MGO number, which the brand describes in mg/kg, alongside an NPA rating from independent laboratory testing. Higher numbers cost more, a lot more. So before you look at grades, answer one question: is this honey for the breakfast table, or for a slow, savored spoonful?

  • For toast, yogurt and tea: the brand's Everyday Strength collection (MGO 260+ to 880+).
  • To taste a rare grade: the high-MGO jars, ideally in a small size first.

Step 2: Pick your grade

The everyday starter: MGO 260+ (NPA 10+)

This is the entry point most first-timers should consider. Biosota describes it as pure raw Australian Manuka honey, lab-tested to at least NPA 10+ and MGO 260+ mg/kg. It comes in three sizes, shown to US shoppers at $34 for 250 g, $57 for 500 g and $71 for 1 kg. The kilo works out to roughly half the per-gram price of the small jar, but only if you'll get through it.

One step up: MGO 550+ (NPA 15+)

The brand calls it rich and flavorsome and suggests it by the teaspoon or on toast. It's $45 for 250 g or $77 for 500 g. Choose it if you want to taste the difference a higher grade makes without leaving the everyday range.

The top of the everyday range: MGO 880+ (NPA 20+)

This is where the brand's tasting notes get interesting. Its profile describes a pale light amber color, a smooth, runny, glassy texture, and a flavor that blends sweetness, fruity and zesty citrus notes with "the smooth richness of butterscotch." $71 for 250 g, $119 for 500 g.

To try something rare: MGO 1717+ in the 70 g trial jar

Biosota sells its MGO 1717+ (NPA 31+) Violetglass jar in a 70 g trial size for $69, alongside 140 g ($128), 250 g ($213) and 500 g ($365). The brand says the small jar was added so you can sample the grade. If curiosity is what's pulling you in, this is the low-commitment way to satisfy it.

Step 4: Set up your account and cart

You don't need an account to buy, but Biosota's free Manuka Squad program makes it worth the minute it takes:

  • 200 points for creating an account,
  • 5 points per A$1 spent, redeemable for discounts on later orders,
  • points for reviews and birthdays, valid for 12 months.

Then look at your cart total. The site banner offered a free gift with purchases over A$100, and standard shipping to the US is free over A$115. Thresholds are set in Australian dollars even when prices show in USD, so leave a small margin. The FAQ also says the newsletter brings a monthly offer; we didn't find a public promo code.

Step 5: Checkout and payment

Biosota's FAQ lists Visa, Mastercard, American Express and PayPal, with Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna and Afterpay available for payments in Australian dollars. Prices show in your local currency for most countries, so US shoppers see US dollars at checkout.

Two checkout details matter: international orders can't ship to PO boxes, and the brand asks for a valid phone number for the courier. Express shipping (DHL Express for international orders) is priced at checkout.

Step 6: Delivery and arrival

Orders are processed within 1–2 business days, and you'll get a tracking email when your parcel ships. The shipping policy estimates 2–5 business days for standard US domestic delivery and 5–14 business days for international shipping, depending on customs. Import duties or fees, if your country charges them, are the buyer's responsibility.

When the jar arrives, don't panic if it looks grainy. The brand says its raw, unprocessed honey can crystallize in cooler temperatures and that this doesn't affect its quality or taste; stand the jar in warm, not boiling, water to smooth it out.

If something goes wrong

  • No change-of-mind returns. Choose the grade and size carefully.
  • Damaged or faulty? Start a return request in your customer account or contact Biosota. After review, it may offer a refund, replacement or store credit.
  • Return costs are yours, and the brand recommends tracked, registered post.

Final verdict

Biosota looks complicated from the outside, but a good first order is just six decisions: what it's for, which grade, which jar, an account for the welcome points, a cart sized to the A$100 and A$115 lines, and a little patience while it travels. Start with a 250 g everyday jar or a 70 g taste of the rare stuff, and compare current Biosota offers before you pay. Once you know your grade, see today's Biosota deals on the bigger jars.
