Bear Mattress Questions Answered 2026: Layers, Firmness, Trial and More

You've narrowed it down to Bear. Then the questions start piling up. Foam or hybrid? Which one lets you pick the firmness? What exactly is "DuraDense"? And why does one queen cost $998 while another costs $3,041 when they look almost the same in the photos?
Olivia Reviews collected the questions shoppers ask most before buying a Bear mattress and answered each one from Bear's own spec sheets, compare page and policies, checked on October 20, 2026. No guesswork, no star ratings, just what the brand publishes.
Quick take: Bear sells two all-foam beds (Original, Pro Foam), four hybrids (Original Hybrid, Pro Hybrid, Elite Hybrid, Elite Ultra Hybrid) and a latex hybrid (Bear Natural). Queen list prices run from $998 to $3,041. Only the two Elite models let you choose Soft, Medium or Firm. Everything ships free to the lower 48 with a 365-night trial, but returns now apply to your first order only. See today's Bear Mattress deals before you choose.

Choosing a Model
1. What's the real difference between all-foam and hybrid?
The support core. According to Bear's compare page, all-foam mattresses use foam throughout, with higher-density foam at the bottom for stability. Hybrids put foam comfort layers on top of a coil core. Bear adds that hybrids are generally more breathable because the open coil core lets air move, and that all its hybrids use reinforced coils around the edges.
- All-foam: Bear Original (10") and Pro Foam (12").
- Hybrid: Original Hybrid (11"), Pro Hybrid (13"), Elite Ultra Hybrid (13.5") and Elite Hybrid (14").
2. Which Bear mattresses let me choose the firmness?
Only the Elite Hybrid and Elite Ultra Hybrid, in Soft (5/10), Medium (6/10) or Firm (7/10). The others come in one feel: the Original and Pro Foam are listed at 6.5–7/10, the Original Hybrid at 6/10. Bear says most of its customers land between 5 and 7.5.
3. What's actually inside each one?
Bear lists every layer on its product pages. Here's the construction, top to bottom:
| Model | Layers, per Bear | Queen list price |
|---|---|---|
| Bear Original | Quilted Celliant® cover, gel swirl memory foam, responsive comfort foam, high-density foundation foam | $998 |
| Original Hybrid | Cover, quilt foam (optional cooling layer), gel swirl memory foam, dynamic transition foam, Ascension coils, DuraDense base foam | $1,184 |
| Pro Foam | Cover, extra quilt foam, gel swirl memory foam, responsive comfort foam, high-density foundation foam | $1,427 |
| Pro Hybrid | Cover, quilt foam (optional cooling layer), gel swirl memory foam, dynamic transition foam, TitanCore coils, DuraDense base foam | $1,855 |
| Elite Hybrid | Cover, quilt foam (optional cooling layer), copper-infused memory foam, responsive comfort foam, dynamic transition foam, zoned Ascension coils, DuraDense base foam | $2,284 |
| Elite Ultra Hybrid | Cover, cooling quilt foam, copper-infused memory foam, microcoils, responsive comfort foam, dynamic transition foam, zoned Ascension coils, DuraDense base foam | $3,041 |

4. What does the cooling upgrade add, and what does it cost?
On the Original Hybrid, Pro Hybrid and Elite Hybrid, you can add Bear's CoolForce™ Layer inside the quilt foam. In queen, it adds $286 to each: $1,470, $2,141 and $2,570. On the Elite Ultra Hybrid, it's already included in the $3,041 price.
5. How tall and how heavy are they?
Useful if you're carrying the box upstairs or matching sheet depth. Queen figures from Bear's spec sheets:
| Model | Height | Queen weight |
|---|---|---|
| Bear Original | 10" | 70 lb |
| Pro Foam | 12" | 68 lb |
| Elite Hybrid | 14" | 80 lb |
| Elite Ultra Hybrid | 13.5" | 115 lb |
| Bear Natural | 13" | 110 lb |
Bear recommends two people for setup. The Bear Natural ships rolled in a box measuring 45" x 20.5" x 20.5".

Materials and Where It's Made
6. Is Bear fiberglass-free, and what do the certifications mean?
Bear says its mattresses are fiberglass-free and meet federal flammability rules (16 CFR 1633 and 1632) without fiberglass fabric. They're listed as GREENGUARD Gold certified, a standard for low chemical emissions into indoor air, and use CertiPUR-US® certified foam, which Bear describes as made without formaldehyde, ozone depleters or prohibited phthalates.

7. Where are Bear mattresses made?
Bear says its mattresses are made to order at its factory in Arizona, using foreign and domestic components, then compressed, rolled and shipped. The warranty names the company as Brooklyn Bedding, LLC d/b/a Bear Mattress. If you'd like to lie on one first, Bear's site lists 18 showroom locations in Arizona.
8. What makes the Bear Natural different?
It's the latex option. Bear describes organic cotton yarn, 100% natural latex and a zoned coil system, in a medium-firm feel. It's 13" tall, and a queen lists at $2,427.

9. Does Bear make anything for kids?
Yes. The Bear Cub is a hybrid with cooling gel memory foam and individually wrapped coils, in Arctic Blue or Salmon, from $570 for a twin ($712 full, $784 queen). Bear lists it as fiberglass-free and GREENGUARD Gold certified. For younger kids, the Koda and Teddy floor beds are $570 each.
10. Can I add a topper later?
Bear sells the Pro Topper: 3 inches of copper-infused memory foam with a removable, launderable cover, $345 in queen. It's covered by a 30-night return window, like other accessories.

Buying, Trial and Warranty
11. How does the trial work in 2026?
You get 365 nights from delivery, and Bear asks you to sleep on it for at least 30 nights before starting a return. For purchases from October 7, 2026, returns apply to your first order only, one per household, and the refund is the price you paid less any discounts. An exchange is possible within the trial, but the replacement can't be returned. Accessories and bed bases have 30-night windows; adjustable bases can't be returned.
12. What does the warranty cover?
Mattresses bought from February 1, 2025 carry a limited lifetime warranty covering manufacturing defects, for beds bought from Bear or its authorized retailers. Bear lists a firm, flat base as a requirement, such as slats less than 5.5 inches apart, and says traditional box springs aren't compatible.

Who Bear Suits, and Who Might Look Elsewhere
A good fit if you want clear specs, like to compare layer by layer and value a long home trial. Look elsewhere if you expect to try several mattresses from the same brand, since the new policy allows one return per household. A mattress is furniture, not a treatment: if you have ongoing pain or trouble sleeping, talk to a doctor.
Final Verdict
Most Bear questions come down to three choices: foam or coils, fixed or selectable firmness, and whether the cooling layer is worth $286. Bear answers each with numbers on its own pages, from layer lists to queen weights. Settle those, keep the first-order return rule in mind, and browse Bear Mattress coupons and deals before you check out.
